Silk

The silkworm (the caterpillar of the silkworm moth Bombyx mori) munches its way through many leaves so it can later build a cocoon. White mulberry is the preferred foodstuff for producing silk but other leaves will do. It takes 9 pounds [4 kgs] of leaves to produce just 0.4 ounces [10.0 grams] of silk. A single cocoon can give up to a mile of silk thread.
