Song dynasty

History

The Song dynasty is a period of Chinese refinement and peace rather than military prowess. Great strides were taken in the creative arts and literature. Prosperity from the growing trade by sea rather than overland fueled the building of huge cities. The eventual conquest by the Mongol hordes brought the dynasty to a tragic close.

Wuchang

The city of Wuchang became part of Wuhan, Hubei in 1926. Its most famous claim to fame is that the Wuchang Uprising in 1911 which was the spark that finally dislodged the Manchu dynasty from power. Sun Yatsen and his Republican movement had staged many attempted revolts in the southern cities. With massive unrest over the ownersip of railways by foreign powers, an incident in Wuchang on Ocvtober 9th 1911 sparked the eventually successful revolution.
